Who We Are

Methodists United for Peace with Justice, the sponsors of this website, is a national association of laity and clergy engaged in education, public policy advocacy, and ecclesial activities. We organized in 1987 in response to the foundation document and pastoral letter of the United Methodist Council of Bishops, In Defense of Creation: The Nuclear Crisis and a Just Peace. In this document the bishops said "No" to nuclear deterrence and any use of nuclear weapons and called for greater witness and action for peace and justice. Since then we have been faithful advocates of nuclear disarmament and have broadened our interests to other peace issues.

Our other main project is a website on Strategic Peacemaking and an associated blog.
